Flying Disc Fun

Flying Disc (aka Frisbee) Fun

For many years, Cool Planet hosted and organized the Minnesota Overall Flying Disc championships and various frisbee festivals (See archives here).  We have happily turned over the Minnesota Overalls to others.  But 2025 is a special year and marks the 50th anniversary of the Minnesota Frisbee Association (MFA) of which Paul Thompson (Cool Planet Co-Director) was a founding member.  What better way to mark the occasion but to bring our environmental message to a summer of celebration.  We are starting off with our sponsorship on the final day of the 2025 PDGA Masters Disc Golf World Championships to make it a Zero-Waste event on July 5th at Blue Ribbon Pines in East Bethel, MN.

The Minnesota Frisbee Association Celebrates 50 Years!

The Minnesota Frisbee Association (MFA) is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2025. One of the values of the MFA is to be good stewards of the environment.

With this in mind and in partnership with Ray Jordan the owner of Blue Ribbon Pines, Walters Recycling and Refuse, Cool Planet and Throw Green a PDGA environmental initiative,  the MFA is proud to announce that at the 2025 PDGA Masters Disc Golf World Championships:

  • recycling will be available at all courses
  • the use of refillable water bottles will be encouraged
  • Saturdays final day Fly Mart  and Players Party @ Blue Ribbon Pines, composting of all food and beverage containers will be provided

The PDGA’s “Throw Green” initiative is focused on introducing new standards of environmental responsibility to PDGA events. This initiative of the PDGA Environmental Committee was first established at Pro Worlds 2018 in Vermont.  The 2025 Master’s Worlds can help to establish best practices for future events.

While in  the beautiful Twin Cities Metropolitan area, and on the courses please remember this list of how to be a good environmental steward! Many thanks!

  • Carry it in/carry it out
  • Carry a small bag to collect litter when you are playing
  • Use waste and recycling containers and remind your group to do the same
  • Use reusable water bottles and avoid plastic bottle use
  • Compost food waste, cups and food containers @ Blue Ribbon Pines on July 5th at our “Zero Waste Day @ BRP
  • Enjoy and respect wildlife and native areas
