Cool Planet Skiers

Saving our Winters, Together

Cool Planet works with families and organizations to help empower them to do their part to solve the climate crisis.

We use our passions to help focus and drive our work. For example:
  • As avid cross country skiers, we’re thrilled to be working more closely with the Loppet this year to help them get closer to their goal of carbon neutrality.
  • We have deep roots in Edina, and helped draft the city’s climate action plan that will cut the city’s climate pollution by 45% in just 9 years!
  • Our founding member, Paul, has skied 40 American Birkebiener races. And we helped start Birkie Green to make the Birkie more sustainable.
And there’s so much more that Cool Planet has in store. We want to support you (yes, you!) to right-size your climate action and start feeling like you’re helping save our winters and the sport you love. That’s what it’s all about. Saving the things we love.

Need a place to start? Pick a simple step. One foot (or ski!?) in front of the other – that’s how we win this race!

Hey Birkie Skiers - Here are Actions just for you

  1. Offset your Carbon Footprint for traveling to Birkie Week
  2. Recycle your race bib (look for bins in the changing area)
  3.  Contact your elected officials to act on climate.  Start with President Biden, then fill out your Personal Legislative Mapping form and make a plan to contact others.

Take Action

Watch the film Saving Snow – the documentary that includes a segment with Paul Thompson at the Birkie in 2017.

You can use this toolkit to help you with plans for a screening of your own.

And start with these Simple Steps.

Cool Planet Skiers meets the Green House game

We want to put climate solutions into everyone’s hands.  To do that, Cool Planet has partnered wit the Green House card game creators.  Join the fun!

About Green House

Green House is a cooperative card game for the whole family that can be played in 20-30 minutes. Draw events, play actions, manage your hope and money, and get rid of greenhouse gases together.

Green House is more than just a game. Each action card is a real climate solution with a QR code you can scan to learn more and take action.
